Paramedical Aesthetics Physicians and Aestheticians: Building Bridges for FACE Facial Aesthetics Cosmetic Education™ F.A.C.E. Paramedical Aesthetician: A licensed aesthetician working alongside the physician patients. The aesthetician has advanced training in paramedical skin care education. Paramedical aesthetics have base line formats of skills which enhances the general license in aesthetics. Skills include camouflage cosmetics, basic science of skin care, advanced clinical skin care facial treatments and comprehension of "patient care". A paramedical is not as independent or advanced in clinical skin care management as the Medical Aesthetician. The Medical Aesthetician is very advanced in skills , treatments, procedures that provide physicians a great business relationship and skin care professional. Medical Aestheticians are very independent, clinically multi-diversified, business savvy, has obtained advanced skin care management knowledge and generally enter into product development to continue growing. Medical Aestheticians are a powerhouse for the right physician. The Birthing of a Dream Ron Renee, Anna D. Rinehart and Dr. Paul Plez Tinsley Jr. ( Facial Plastic Surgeon ) began a conversation in the mid to late 80s regarding facilitating the aesthetician to a level of skin care training that would provide them the necessary skills to work competently with and among other allied health professionals. The idea was to provide skin care specialists ( aestheticians ) an opportunity to choose to work with ( para) medical doctors on a cooperative and interdependent level. The ultimate goal for aestheticians working with physicians was not to become subservient to the medical doctor as an ancillary relationship, rather to actively participate in skin care management which benefited the patient, provide continuity of patient care and remain as an independent skin care specialist specialized with medical and aesthetic skills that no other health care provider was able to provide. "Medical Aesthetics has an infrastructure that is able to interface with physicians in every medical specialty. Physicians and medical aestheticians have greater entrepreneurial spirits and see "patient care" as a part of the overall responsibility of their unique roles collaboratively for positive outcomes." Anna D. Rinehart Paramedical Aesthetics was birthed during a very turbulent time of medical inter-specialty "turfs" were being fought. aesthetics desired a "identity outside cosmetologists" and the health care industry was feeling the pangs of changes in HMOs. Doctors were having to re-evaluate their patients loads, aestheticians wanted separate licensing, and the powers that be at the time were being fought for status quo. Individuals that were perceived as " authorities" in skin care did not want growth and development for the aesthetician because there would be a change of commands and their education was not in tuned with more present day thought ( forward thinking ) in skin care matters. Dermatologists felt aestheticians were charlatans and lacked the education and clinical savvy to work among medical professionals....so who opened the door? Facial Plastic Surgeons
opened the first doors for aestheticians to enter, thrive and development in
education. Facial Plastic Surgeons understood the need to grow beyond
fundamental education. They encouraged CEU opportunity for professional and
personal growth. Plastic Surgeons sought to take command by containing how the
aesthetician ( skin care specialist ) could grow and be validated. The
dermatologist just would not hear of the aesthetician having any valuable
education much less skills to work effectively with " patient care".
Aestheticians are valuable contributors not only on the subject of skin care management but "skin care health" . Time and time again, aestheticians changes ( influence a change ) of how one accepts their mirror images far more than a simple facial treatment. Next time you hear someone tell you I am a paramedical aesthetician, you can be assured she/he changed someone's life. Paramedical Aestheticians are not desiring to be another "nurse" but rather a valuable contributor to the "patient" and influence a change of perceptions of health, aging and "mirror reflections". |
